The Queen Photographers

5 Conferences Our Queens Love

Photography conferences and workshops give us a chance to network and collaborate; here are some our Queens love.

There are tons of photography conferences available to just about every type of photographer.  There are those with specific focuses and those for the general photographer. Queen Photographer Collaborative member, Tomayia Colvin has compiled a list of conferences available in 2017.

With so many to choose from, how do you know which are worth your time and money? The Queen Photographers have you covered. We asked our members to share their experiences of the recent conferences and workshops they’ve attended.  Here are 5 conferences our Queens love:

{un}convention by Catalyst Wedding Co

{un}convention is a gathering of unabashedly feminist, progressive-minded wedding industry professionals. Last year the conference took place in Richmond, VA and boasted a diverse line-up of speakers and panelists, educating attendees on how to be more inclusive disrupters in the wedding space. The small groups in the workshops help to foster genuine dialogue on how to reach the client that shares your values in a community-driven environment.

{un}convention is headed to London, UK Friday 21 April 2017.

ImagingUSA by Professional Photographers of America (PPA)

ImagingUSA is a photographic event that draws thousands of professionals from around the world.  Our Queen Photographers heavily attended this conference in January, where they even got to meet the queen of portraits, Sue Bryce.  There are trade shows, parties, and several classes geared to just about every area of photography imaginable.

ImagingUSA 2018 will head to Nashville, TN January 11-16, 2018.

WPPI

The Wedding and Portrait Professionals International(WPPI) hosts a largely attended conference every year in Las Vegas. According to their site, “WPPI 2016 drew over 12,000 registered attendees and over 200 exhibitors from around the world to embrace photographers from all genres, including portraiture, fine art, photojournalism, commercial, video, and advertising.” Did we mention it’s in Las Vegas?  You can sign up to receive updates on the March 2018 conference here.

Brown Girl With a Camera Portfolio Building Experience

Although more of an experience than a workshop or conference, we MUST include the BGWAC Portfolio Building event–after all, this was how the Queen Photographers was formed.  Each year, BGWAC founder, Ruby Melton, tours the world bringing together women photographers of color, models, make-up artists, stylists, and more.  Cities on this year’s tour include DC, New Orleans, Charleston, and Miami.

New York City is the experience’s next stop on April 29, 2017.

The Queen Photographers Workshop

And finally, our Queens LOVE the Queen Photographers Workshop! With its inception, our first event took place in beautiful Charleston, SC. Charleston area leader, Sirena Singleton, planned a phenomenal event of speakers, TWO styled shoots, and an evening on the town with our fellow Queens. Check the #QPSCTakesCharleston hashtag on Instagram for more behind the scenes and images produced. This workshop landed a feature in Huffington Post Weddings as well as in A Low Country Wedding!

This year’s workshop takes us to Mojo Coworking in Asheville, NC on May 20-21, 2017  for a weekend retreat focused on leveling-up in business.  This year’s panel and topics include: creating a social media content plan, studio lighting, using workflows to optimize your business, and shooting a beautiful wedding with any type of budget. We are proud to have sponsors like 17Hats, Shootproof, and WHCC to partner with us for this event. To see our list of speakers and panelists, head here.

We welcome every photographer to this year’s event. Tickets have been on sale for a week and have already sold out 50% of those, so don’t wait! Register here now.

We look forward to seeing you at #QPWorkshop2017.

Great Conferences! I must also add the AKP Retreat! It’s an awesome weekend of being real, raw, and open! Also, lots opportunities to shoot and build authentic connections with other photographers and vendors.
